Paul Abbey, MD – Bio

Dr. Abbey graduated from, Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio in 1976 with a degree in biology, Cum Laude. He received his Medical Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1981. His internship in General Surgery was served at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He performed his Residency in Orthopaedics at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts from 1984 to 1987, where he was also a Research Associate at its Department of Orthopaedics in 1984. He served a Residency in General Surgery at Vanderbilt University Hospital from 1982 to 1984.

Dr. Abbey did a postgraduate study in hand surgery with John Madden, M.D. in Tucson, Arizona in 1991. He also studied Microsurgery at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, from 1988 to 1989. Additionally, he did postgraduate work in Hand Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas from 1987 to 1988.

Dr. Abbey is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the National Board of Medical Examiners. His areas of specialization are Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity and Reconstructive Microsurgery.

Prior to joining Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics, Dr. Abbey was in private practice with the Virginia Mason Clinic in Seattle, Washington and then at Tennessee Orthopaedics in Lebanon, Tennessee.
